Abstract

The following article critically examines the concept of e-learning in its numerous facets and points of reference and attempts to show the possibilities and limits of the use of e-learning. In the second part, the importance of instruction in the design of computer-supported learning environments is explained. This is done on the basis of definitions of characteristics and framework conditions of instructional systems as well as on the example of distance learning material and the learning environment of the Virtual University.
