Abstract
Against the backdrop of transfer- and profession-based theories that digital platforms might strengthen cooperative practices over time in professional development initiatives, this study examines connections between the professional use of LMS and perceived changes in teaching within the QuaMath professional development program. For the evidence-based development of such program infrastructures, empirical findings are needed on whether and under what conditions LMS use in early program phases is related to teacher-perceived changes in teaching in the professional development program. In this context, the present study examines whether mathematics teachers who use a learning-management-system (LMS) for professional development – exchange, collaboration, communication or lesson planning – differ from a group that does not use an LMS for professional development in terms of their perceived changes in teaching practice in the first year of the long-term and systematically designed QuaMath program. N = 64 mathematics teachers participated in the first of three online surveys (T1: 12/2024-04/2025). Results of the one-way analysis of variance indicate a significant difference between mathematics teachers who use an LMS in their work and those who do not, with LMS users tending to report changes in their teaching more frequently. Sociodemographic characteristics of the mathematics teachers (gender, age, professional experience) do not differ systematically. Implications of these findings for research and practice are discussed further.
