Abstract
In diesem Beitrag werden Identitätsaushandlungen deutscher Migrant:innen über Medien in Grossbritannien im Kontext des Brexit diskutiert. Basierend auf der theoretischen Verortung nach Elias und Scotson (1990) von Etablierten und Aussenseitern zeigen sich nach dem EU-Referendum bei den deutschen Ausgewanderten Unsicherheiten bezüglich ihrer transnationalen europäischen Identität. Nach intensiven Anstrengungen über Jahre und teils Jahrzehnte, eine neue private und berufliche Heimat in Grossbritannien aufzubauen, scheint sich vor dem Hintergrund von Grossbritanniens EU-Austritt und des damit verbundenen gesellschaftlichen Wandels alles zu ändern. Soziale Ausgrenzung, Trennung von früheren Freund:innen sowie die Angst vor einem möglichen Ausschluss vom Arbeitsmarkt aufgrund politischer Unstimmigkeiten führen bei den Migrierten schliesslich zu Überlegungen, wieder nach Deutschland zurückzukehren. Auf der anderen Seite fühlen sie sich ihrer ursprünglichen Heimat immer mehr entfremdet, obwohl alle Teilnehmenden noch ein bestehendes soziales Netzwerk in Deutschland pflegen und die deutsche Sprache, Kultur und soziale Einstellung vermissen. Als Outsider in beiden Ländern hilft ihnen wiederum der mediale Austausch mit Freund:innen und Familie in Deutschland, um Entfremdungsängste abzubauen und ihre hybride transnationale europäische Identität zu stärken.c
