Abstract

The article describes a hybrid form of learning in which online learning phases are combined with presence phases. "Educational Media" is a postgraduate Master's programme at the University of Essen-Duisburg that provides technical and didactic knowledge on media education. After a needs and target group analysis, a curriculum was developed which is presented here. While presence phases and group elements (chat forums) are particularly important in the early stages, the need for self-directed learning periods increases in later phases. Intensive personal support by tutors as well as the connection to the institution increase motivation and reduce the dropout rate.
