Abstract
New information technologies are in the process of fundamentally changing education and training measures. Both learning environments and teaching and learning strategies are currently undergoing very rapid change (cf. e.g. Günther/Mandl 1997). Lectern, blackboard and chalk, which were once dominant teaching aids, have long since been replaced or supplemented by technical equipment designed to support teachers in their instructional efforts: Video recorders are now standard equipment both in schools and in further education, personal computers are in the process of becoming standard equipment, multimedia learning environments as well as methods of telecommunication as currently the latest developments offer, if one believes the various providers, again completely new teaching and learning possibilities.
