Abstract

In vocational education and training, (e-)portfolios for reflecting on what has been learned - unlike at universities or in general education schools, for example - currently hardly exist in theory and practice. Concepts and studies on the use of e-portfolios in vocational education and training and in continuing education and training are largely lacking, so that the potential of portfolio work for a more self-confident and self-determined design of vocational learning has so far remained unused. This is where this article comes in. A concept is presented on how the use of an e-portfolio can support vocational training in the dual system. Using the example presented, the possibilities and limits of the use of e-portfolios in vocational education and training are shown. The e-portfolio is implemented within the framework of the e-learning concept of the Kompetenzwerkst@tt, which is based on vocational science (cf. Howe/Knutzen 2007). The Kompetenzwerkst@tt is a software-supported training concept that is oriented towards real vocational work processes and approaches of situated learning. The focus of the e-portfolio as part of the Kompetenzwerkst@tt is the documentation and reflection of the training content of dual vocational training across learning locations. The article shows how the conceptual considerations for portfolio work in vocational education and training are influenced by the portfolio discourse in other educational sectors, but differ significantly in their implementation and concrete objectives. In addition, further possibilities and options of portfolio work in vocational education and training are shown.
