Abstract

The fact that media have at least an accompanying function in personality development and integration into society could be regarded as a state of socialisation theory even before the advent of the "new media". With the much-discussed "social network sites" (SNS), however, a new medium seems to be available that intervenes in the identity formation of young people in a different form than was or is the case with classical mass media.
